The Nue Co. Plant Protein reviews are tricky to find so I figured I would take some time today to tell you all about my experience with this shiny, black, beautifully-packaged vegan protein supplement. In this review, I’m going to do several things. The first thing I’ll do is tell you guys about my love life because I know you’re all dying for an update. JK Jk, no we’re NOT going to talk about my love life because it is non-existent. What we ARE going to do is discuss the Nue Co Plant Protein in so many different ways. The first thing we’re going to do is talk about taste and what I think of the flavor. After that we’ll discuss the ingredients and the the formula. We’ll close things up with an overview of the packaging before giving the Nue Co protein a final score. If that sounds good to you, let’s dive right into things.

I found the Nue Co on the Goop.com, one of my favorite blogs to follow. The Goop, in case you are not aware, is Gwyneth Paltrow’s media company, store, and blog. I have been an avid reader for awhile and while I was browsing her shop section something caught my eye.

It was black, beautiful, and no it wasn’t Kevin Hart. (Don’t even try and tell me he isn’t a hottie!) Lol. But no I didn’t see Kevin Hart on the Goop. I saw this super refined-looking protein powder called the Nue Co.! I had NEVER heard of these guys in my life, and so when I saw this product I immediately shelled out the (cough) $70 dollars for it. I know. It’s MAD expensive. But the goal of this Nue Co review is to let you know if that money is well spent. Let me start from the outside in. We might as well just get this part out of the way.

The Nu Co protein is simply GORGEOUS.

Like. It is stunning. You guys. I can’t even tell you how much I like it. You’re probably laughing that I actually like the Nue Co packaging because you know from my hundreds of other reviews that I most often go for the more colorful, crazy designs. Maybe I’m just getting older, or perhaps that comes with a preference for more subdued packaging. But this Nue Co design just SPEAKS to me. It’s so simple. A black, glass jar speaks volumes about the quality without even saying a word. I love the black background. It’s simple and elegant. The front panel features various text call outs that tell me everything I need to know about the contents within. I love how the Nue Co Plant Protein tells me exactly what’s in the jar without having too much clutter on the label. It’s simply gorgeous. After experiencing how pretty the exterior jar is, I was looking forward to TASTING this Nue Co Plant Protein. But before I do that let’s set the table by evaluating the ingredients in here.

What are the ingredients in The Nue Co Plant Protein?

This Plant Protein contains the essential ingredients that most vegan protein powders contain. Yep. You guessed it. Pea protein powder is the primary ingredient here. That yellow pea protein is surrounded by very few additional ingredients. You have hemp protein listed second, followed by chicory which is a pre-biotic fiber. The final ingredient is probiotic powder. And that rounds out the entire formula. I know, right? Nothing all that crazy. But you also notice ZERO flavoring ingredients. No stevia. No gums. No flavors at all, natural or otherwise. It’s very curious to me why they use no flavoring, and while it made me lower my expectations for the flavor, it did also raise my desire and curiosity to try this stuff out. So I whipped out my almond milk, my magic blender, and got to work preparing my first Nue Co Plant Protein Gut Food Shake. Oh shoot. We haven’t done macros. Let me find those for you real quick to let you know what we are working with calorically, etc. Here are the macros in the Nue Co Plant Protein Food product:

Per Scoop:

  • Calories 60
  • Total Fat 1g
  • Total Carb 2g
  • Protein 12g
  • Sodium 80mg
  • Inulin 750mg
  • Bacillus Coagulans 20mg

NOTES: Nothing really to report here. The protein count is a little bit lower than some comparable products by only having 12g per serving. I also noticed there are only 14 servings per jar here. So. You do the math how much money per serving you are getting for…four ingredients.

So formula-wise, I don’t have a problem with the Nue Co Plant Protein shake. I can see the writing on the wall that I’m going to have an issue with the price I paid per serving but who knows maybe the flavor will BLOW me away… Brb mixing up my first Nue Co shake.

What Does the Nue Co Protein Taste Like?

Well, as you could probably have guessed,  the Nue Co. protein shake tastes like dirt. Not strongly. But it’s definitely not neutral either. There’s some clear ‘pea’ flavor. I don’t really have a problem with pea flavor, and honestly I’ve come to be well prepared for these Vegan proteins to all kind of taste like pea. But this one tastes like Pea to a greater extent. In fact it might even have a heavier ‘pea’ taste than the Ora Organic Vegan protein that I reviewed a little while ago. So. Yeah. I mean. There’s not a whole lot more to say about The Nue Co. protein. It tastes like vegan, unflavored powder. I sort of question the logic of making it so naked that it tastes like doo-doo but who knows maybe some people really like that taste. But for me I want to enjoy drinking my Vegan protein shake, not choke it down and ‘just get it over with’. So. I am going to give Nue Co Plant Protein a C- on the taste. I don’t care that ‘less is more’ and that they’re being fancy and modern. It doesn’t taste good and that’s that. So. I think we have enough info now to wrap this Nue Co Vegan protein powder review up with a bow.

Nue Co. Protein Review Summary

  • The flavor is bad because it HAS no flavor
  • The formula is SUPER basic and contains just four ingredients- pea, hemp, probiotic, and prebiotic. Total lack of sweeteners or flavors
  • The packaging is simply brilliant. There are no two ways about it. Beautiful and elegant

Despite being a looker packaging-wise and totally on trend with it’s minimalist formula, close to $6 per serving is just lunacy, especially given it’s only 12g of protein. I would maybe give the Nue Co a thumbs up at half the price. Until then, you can pass by this one.*
