BPI Best Keto Pre Workout is Actually NOT the Best.

BPI Best Pre Workout might not actually be the best. But in this review I’ll give you a VERY thorough explanation as to why or why not I’m leading off with such a bold statement. BPI claims to have made the very first ‘Ketogenic Pre Workout’, which does sound intriguing. As someone who plays with fasting, bulletproofing, and the whole nine yards, I of course bit on the BPI promise of better workouts that utilize fat as fuel. I mean. It sounds great, doesn’t it? I thought so too. In this review I’ll do my best to let you know if the BPI Best Ketogenic Pre Workout actually does what it claims. I’ll talk about flavor, the performance aspects, the formulation itself, and of course the packaging before closing with a final BPI Best Pre Workout Review summary that will hopefully help you decide if this BPI Ketogenic Pre Workout is right for you. Let’s do it!

BPI Sports has seemed to come on strong very recently as the folks have transitioned there attention to the new ways of marketing. I see that creepy James Grage dude all over my facebook randomly babbling about there new products (I actually think he’s kinda studly though LOL), but, that’s where I first heard that they had a new ketogenic pre workout. I almost instantly headed over to bodybuilding.com to find out if this new pre workout was an improvement over their last pre workout that I tried, which was the deplorable BPI 1MR Vortex, which had an absolutely awful formulation. But more recently, I tried, and thoroughly enjoyed, the BPI Best BCAA product. I wanted to see if this new pre workout was equally as well executed. Why don’t we start with flavoring.

BPI Best Pre Workout Tastes WEIRDLY Good.

Now. Most pre workouts have a thin, fruity complexion. Probably sweet and tangy, but always very thin and watery. There are exceptions, sure, such as the Pre Jym line, which is like 20 grams so of course it is bound to be a little thicker in density. But the BPI best pre workout is on another level. They thickened it up with all those MCTs and fats to give it its ‘ketogenic’ aspect, and you can really TASTE that it is different from other pre workout products. I tried the Blue Lemon Ice flavor, and found it to be very strangely delicious. It doesn’t really taste like blue raspberry or lemonade, but I think it’s probably supposed to be some sort of hybrid between the two? Anyways I really enjoy it. I think it has some tropical notes, but really the overlying flavor is of milkiness and thick creaminess. It’s almost like a melted whipped cream texture that makes it really fun and a unique drinking experience. It’s sweet and fruity and creamy. Almost like a melty tropical berry liquid. That’s the best I can describe the TASTE of BPI Best Keto Pre Workout. Let’s move on now to the supplement facts and ingredients.

BPI Keto Pre Workout has a STRANGE Formula.

And to be honest with you, I’m not going to be able to add very much technical information as far as what these ingredients do and how they work. If nothing else, BPI really did come up with a first as far as how this pre workout is built. There is caffeine, CDP-Choline, and then a whole slew of ingredients that are supposed to throw your body into a state of ketosis. Those ingredients include:

  1. Captex MCTs
  2. Beta-Hydroxybutyrate
  3. Calcium Beta-Hydroxybutyrate
  4. Magnesium Beta-Hydroxybutyrate
  5. Sodium Beta-Hydroxybutyrate

And then you also have dandelion root, which makes you pee. Now. Real quick. My biggest complaint with BPI Best Ketogenic Pre Workout is that they would include a diuretic in here. WHY the heck would you include a diuretic in your pre workout? The real reason is that they want you to PEE more so that you LOOK leaner and think ‘wow I’m actually losing weight! That’s crazy!’. This is absolutely a problem and shows you that BPI is, to an extent, trying to pull one over on you. Not to mention both times I’ve had this pre workout, I’ve had to STOP my workout to go pee. And it’s 100% because of that ingredient. Ugh. Legitimately so made at BPI for that.

Ok. So what about all this BHB stuff? Honestly I don’t know. You know I’ve been skeptical of these ‘Keto’ products ever since my review of the disgustingly overpriced KETO OS. But I can tell you they are supposed to put your body into a state of ketosis. I think unless you are literally completely fasted, and close to ketosis already, then ingesting 40 calories worth of more fat has no chance of forcing you into ketosis. I just don’t think it’s possible. However. If you actually are fasted an either in, or close to that state, then sure maybe these added fats can get you there. Almost like the bulletproof coffee thing. But again, I don’t know how much I believe in the science of Beta Hydroxybutyrate. It might just be snake oil. Especially skeptical coming from a company that, let’s be honest, has given us reason to be. So. Let’s move along to performance.

Does BPI Ketogenic Pre Workout WORK?

It’s a tough question to answer, honestly, and one that I’m going to tell you is heavily involving the placebo effect. I tried BPI Best Ketogenic Pre Workout two times now, yesterday and today. Yesterday I had eaten a lunch about two hours before trying this pre workout. And I can tell you fairly certainly my body was NOT in ketosis. In fact I probably had every cell in my body full of calories to use. So adding 40 more really just made me feel a little bit full and sluggish at first until the caffeine kicked in harder.

I did the same workout both days. I went into the gym, did a 35 minute stretching routine that also includes some hamstring strengthening/isometric holds. Yesterday the whole time I felt the BPI Pre Workout sloshing around my stomach, and then only really started to feel a little better during back to back two mile runs. But still, during those runs I did not feel BPI Best Pre Workout was providing much assistance. I felt the caffeine wear off, and, like I said, I had to stop midway to go pee, since this pre workout contains diuretics.

This morning, I gave it a second shot. Again, the energy and focus just were not that great. HOWEVER. During my cardio, in which I did uphill treadmill sprints, I swear I did feel much better in terms of my wind and my lungs and endurance. WAS THIS KETO? Who knows. How can you possibly know for sure if you are in ketosis? I’m sure there is some sort of medical test, but really, how else would you know? I suppose some folks will say they can feel it because they are so in touch with their bodies? But I personally wouldn’t know if I was in Ketosis. So whether or not my cardio felt good today because of a placebo of my mind TELLING my body ‘hey maybe you’re in a state of magical ketosis’, or because of this BPI Best Pre Workout, I guess I’ll never know. But I’ll probably give it another shot at some point. But my verdict is that it’s probably NOT the Best Pre workout.

BPI Best Pre Workout Looks Good.

All BPI Sports products do though. They all look nice. Because black and blue and white is just a handsome color combination. The slanted title ‘BEST PRE WORKOUT’ looks good. The yellow accent looks good. The spacing, fonts, and everything is nicely spaced out. You guys know from my five other BPI Reviews that I’ve always been a fan of their packaging. Do I think they might want to consider switching away from those shrink wrap labels though? Yes. I do. Because when you rip off the top strip, it makes it hard to open and close the lid since the label is sliding around in your hands! But. It’s not that huge a deal. BPI is cheap they probably won’t change it. Anyways. Let’s wrap this up (see what I did there?).

BPI Best Pre Workout Review Summary

  • Flavor: 9.5/10
  • Formula: 7.5/10
  • Performance: 8.0/10
  • Packaging: 9.2/10
  • Value: 9.0/10

Final Score: 8.4/10

So the real knock on the BPI Best Keto Pre workout is that number one, they put diuretics in the formula to make you pee, and two, that we don’t really know if this formula actually puts you into ketosis, but my guess is that it basically does not. BUT. On the flipside, it tastes fantastic, and it’s cheap. So you might as well give it a shot. For cardio. I don’t think it’s much of a pre workout for other uses. So. Therefore. Long story shot, this really is NOT the best pre workout.*
