Adaptogen Nutrition Warp 5 Review: A Plain Old Pre Workout

Written by

Ok who’s ready for another pre workout review? I am. Who’s ready for another Adaptogen Science review? I am. Who’s ready for an Adaptogen Science Warp 5 pre workout review? You’re damn right. I am. Hello and welcome friends I’m Jim Nantz and this is going…wait. That’s not right. Hello friends and welcome to my Adaptogen Science pre workout review! Woo! Now we’re cookin’! Yes. As you have gathered by now, we will be discussing today the new Warp Five pre workout from new supplement brand Adaptogen Science. I’ve had the pleasure of using this product for for about an hour and a half now and I’m in a wonderful position to tel you about it. Want to hear more about said position? Good because you’re going to. Spoiler alert- it’s far from wonderful. Eh. I guess it could be worse. In this review I’ll tell you about my life, and then my experience with Warp 5. The first thing we’ll discuss product-wise is the flavor. You need to know what Warp 5 tastes like, right? Right. After we talk taste I’ll tell you about the performance that I had with Warp 5. That sounds weird. The workout* that I had with Warp 5. After that we’ll talk formula, labeling, packaging, and the whole rest of the works. You know how these reviews go by now. I mean. After all I’m coming up on my 100th pre workout review. Pretty crazay. Woo! Let’s get started.

So let’s talk about this position that I alluded to in my intro (alluded is such an underrated word, don’t you think?). This position is an airplane position. No, that’s not a sexual thing. Get your mind out of the gutter. So right now I am 20,000 feet above probably Nevada or something, headed up to Ohio to surprise my BFF for Halloween. And she probably won’t be surprised at all because she has a crazy sixth sense that makes it darn near impossible to really GET her. But that doesn’t stop me from trying. So yeah. You know that since I’m writing this review from the plane at 7 am, my day started long ago. And like all (ok, most) days, it started with a workout. So this review will focus around that workout, and how it was impacted by the new pre workout I bought. Let’s get started discussing Warp 5. How about we start with taste.

Adaptogen Warp 5 Flavor Grade: 8.0

Ok. So if I gave Slap Nutrition an 8 on their flavoring of the Slapuccino pre workout, it’s only fair that I give Warp 5 the same grade. This is a pre workout that comes in a variety of flavors, but me being me, I had to go with the ‘Extreme Fruit Punch’. Because I’m extreme. Well. I guess I probably should’ve known better by now that this would probably be the same taste as every other fruit punch-flavored pre workout in the world. But alas, I have yet to learn. Because my post-purchase fears were confirmed from the second I twirled off the gold lid for the first time and opened the seal. I was greeted by the familiar swirl of pre workout mist- signaling the mysterious excitement of the workout to come. I feel like that is so poetic. Er. No. I KNOW that is poetic. It’s beautiful and is actually a super good representation of how I feel when I open pre workout.

I poured out a measure of about 10 oz of ice cold water from my brita into my favorite pre workout mixing jar- a glass mason jar, of course. (So hipster, right?). I proceeded to add one and one half scoops of Warp 5 pre workout to the water, and then stirred it all together with my spoon. The pre workout turned a brilliant bright red (watup red 40), and dissolved almost instantly. After a few flicks of my wrist and therefore my silver spoon, the pre workout was ready. I tiled my head back and took a long, deep sip of Warp 5. The Extreme Fruit Punch made it’s presence very clear immediately. This is really the exact same fruit punch taste that we’ve had a million times before. It’s sour, sweet, and reminds me most of Cellucor C4, I think. This taste is very pleasant, but nothing you are going to write home about. It’s a very standard, artificial fruit punch taste that we’ve been drinking since we were 3 year olds. It’s familiar, and solid. I give it a B. Let’s talk about how it works now.

Adaptogen Science Warp 5 Performance Grade: 8.6

I’ll give Adaptogen a slightly above average grade on performance, despite a rather meager formula (as you’ll see in the next section of the review). But what I’ve come to learn in these reviews is that it doesn’t always matter what’s on the label. Some products have some sort of special chemistry that seems to allow them to outperform what they seem to be on paper.

I took my pre workout at 4:30 this morning, and had really quite low expectations for my workout. I figured I would do some steady state low-intensity cardio, (sometimes referred to as ‘LISS’ for all you hardos out there). The pre workout kicked in about 5 minutes after I started my elliptical routine. What happened next was really quite astonishing.

It never ceases to amaze me how the human body can pull itself together in amazing ways despite gaps in nutrition, diet, and especially sleep. With a combined 6 hours over the last 2 days, I was expecting to drudge through the workout with very little focus or drive. But to my delight, powered by Warp 5, I came alive in a burst of early morning energy. The elliptical became my unicorn, and I it’s rider. I started flowing so nicely with the music, and the soft lights of the room started to become a blur with the windows that offered a liason to the quiet darkness of the earliest stages of this beautiful Saturday morning. Before I knew it, my hour was up, and my workout was done. I had completed over 4 miles and burned nearly 800 calories- which is like 20% better than I usually do. I won’t give Warp 5 ALL the credit, but you can bet that this pre workout helped me through in a big way. Like I mentioned before, this was a little surprising to me, because the formula is not that special.

Adaptogen Science Warp 5 Formula Grade: 7.8

I had a great workout, but I’m still going to call it like I see it with this formula. At just 6 grams per scoop/serving, this is a lightweight formula, circa 2005 style. This is just a classic proprietary blend pre workout. Now. I’m not going to get up on my high-horse (actually it’s a unicorn, so), and preach about how I’m so high and mighty and need 30 gram pre workouts like Pre Kaged. Because I really don’t. Sure, for some workouts where I feel like I really need that total spectrum of nutrients, the big blend is nice. But if you are treating yourself right, sometimes a quick shot of stimulants is sufficient. Warp 5 is more the latter-style. It’s very, very basic, and hits on all the classic ingredients that you expect to find in your pre workout. Here is the Adaptogen Warp 5 Ingredient list:

  • Caffeine
  • Arginine AKG
  • L-Citrulline
  • Dicreatine Malate
  • Creatine Monohydrate
  • Beta Alanine
  • Primavie (Fulvic Acid Shilajit Complex)
  • N-Acetyl-Tyrosine
  • Citrus-Aurantium

So that’s Warp 5, folks. Nine ingredients. You’ve got the ‘big three’ in caffeine, beta alanine, and creatine. This is going to give you energy, endurance, and strength enhancements. The interesting thing about creatine is it actually aids in muscular endurance as well. So that’s why I probably felt so great during cardio with Warp 5. However. This is a proprietary blend. And it’s a small ingredient deck. It’s very far from being a ‘complete’ workout enhancer. To be brutally honest, it’s a dated, cheap formula. I’ll tell you what doesn’t look dated, though. The packaging.

Adaptogen Science Warp 5 Packaging Grade: 9.0

Time to throw the dog a bone. But seriously. Adaptogen deserves it. Similar to Tasty Whey (their protein that I’ve also reviewed), and the Furian fat burner, this product is striking. Adaptogen clearly has some talented designers at the helm deciding how these sports supplements should look. To me, they walk a fine line between conforming and individuality. They sort of blend the metallic look of Cellucor and Optimum Nutrition with the slanted graphical look of modern-day BPI products. The product name is big, bold, and easy to read. Other important information is made very clear and easy to find on the front panel (ie flavor, servings, etc). The only thing I’m not in love with would have to be Warp 5’s color scheme. The lime green doesn’t REALLY go with the gold, although you know some meathead guys were sitting around a designer’s computer at some point going ‘oh that looks SICk bro’ while the designer cringed and made the change from some nice color to the ugly green. But, hey. That’s the supplement industry, right? LOL. But overall this is a nice-looking pre workout. It could be way worse. Right Controlled Labs? (Burnn).

Adaptogen Science Warp 5 Review Summary

  • Adaptogen Warp 5 Flavor Grade: 8.0
  • Adaptogen Science Warp 5 Performance Grade: 8.6
  • Adaptogen Science Warp 5 Formula Grade: 7.8
  • Adaptogen Science Warp 5 Packaging Grade: 9.0
  • Adaptogen Warp 5 Value Grade: 8.0

This pre workout is relatively cheap, and I do believe you are getting the value that you pay for. This is a good-looking, pretty good-tasting, pretty effective pre workout. Is the formula dated and sort of low-end? Yes. But there’s still plenty of room in the market for pre workouts of this kind. If you’re doing cardio on a budget, I’d have no problem telling you to give Warp 5 a shot.*

Adaptogen Science Warp 5 Final Review Score: 8.1
